Development History
First settled in the early-1800s, Trotwood has retained its small town nature throughout its rich history. From the early to late-1800s Trotwood had developed its own railway station, gristmill, printing office, hotel and body shop. In the late 1950s it became one of Dayton’s first suburbs, which helped expand its traditional small shop industrial base and emerging retail prominence. Since that time Trotwood:
• Built the region’s first indoor shopping mall, now being redeveloped
• Increased its draw as a regional shopping hub
• Opened up huge tracts of undeveloped land from its ’96 Township merger
• Built its first industrial park, Trotwood Commerce Park
• Became Montgomery County’s second largest and fourth most populated city
